I live in Milano, Italy. I write software on commission, and maintain some internet services.
I used to work as an employee before being a free lance (free as in freedom :-/). As a matter of facts, my best customers are my former employers, which lets me wandering about what are the real differences between working one way or the other. I expect that understanding that issue will bring some enhancements on contractual facets of my job, as well as a generically better political point of view on the subject.
In particular, I'd like to convince software commissioners that doing FOSS is less tedious than maintaining that 15-years-old obscurely worded contract template. Perhaps an LGPLv3 might be useful for that task: I write free software and my commissioner embeds it as part of a proprietary system.
That's why I've come to Belfast.
It has been an incredible experience. Unbelievable, really. I have not fully understood Richard's point of view and I am thinking about a number of questions I would like to ask him. Meanwhile, I upload this composition of (most) of the speakers under the patron shadow of saint GNU in the framework of the ancient church.
